The ugliest, most appalling spectacle in American politics

, Opinion writer

Every once in a while, the curtains part and we get a glimpse of the ugliest, most shameful spectacle in American politics: the Republican Party’s systematic attempt to disenfranchise African Americans and other minorities with voter-ID laws and other restrictions at the polls.

If you thought this kind of discrimination died with Jim Crow, think again. Fortunately, federal courts have blocked implementation of some of the worst new laws, at least for now. But the most effective response would be for black and brown voters to send the GOP a message by turning out in record numbers, no matter what barriers Republicans try to put in our way.

A black man writes about black Americans being too stupid and lazy to get a drivers license or State issued ID. Blacks need a drivers license to drive, buy alcohol, get a checking account, get most jobs, receive most welfare benefits or get car insurance and the list is endless! Creating a law that is designed to stop cheating, NOT A SPECIFIC COLOR OF PEOPLE FROM VOTING IS RACIST? HOW? Why is requiring black Americans to get a drivers license or just a State issued ID card disenfranchising black Americans? You don't get to answer this question buy saying someone else is racist or disenfranchising black Americans because that is not an answer. WHAT IS/ARE THE REASON(S) FOR THE WAY YOU THINK OTHER THAN YOUR WHITE AND I'M BLACK SO THAT MAKES IT RACIST?
