Not that food stamps are actually called food stamps any more, it’s a Link card or the like with SNAP benefits on it. However, it is true that America can and should make the poor richer by simply abolishing food stamps or SNAP. Give poor people the cash instead that is – I am not suggesting that the poor not be given aid. Similarly, programs like Medicaid and so on should also be converted to simple cash payments to people with low incomes. I know this sounds a little odd but it is in fact true. We can make the poor richer by doing this. Alternatively, we can leave the poor as well off as they are now and yet pay a smaller tax bill ourselves. All we have to do is to stop giving poor people vouchers and goods and services in kind and simply give them the money instead.
